ANGEL OF DARKNESS—Book 4 in The Lords of The Commission Series

This book is not meant to be listened to as a standalone.

Alison

Alison Battaglia, the mafia princess. In stories like mine, the tension usually starts with an arranged marriage set for an alliance, a payment, or simply a duty.

Not mine.

Marrying a mafia Don seemed like the perfect solution to forget all my problems–getting away, starting fresh, finding my place, trying to forget the man who took a lot more than my virginity three years ago. He was my brother’s best friend, his bodyguard, his second in command. The man who didn’t want me.

Bottom line–not my future husband.

His vow to the Cosa Nostra and my family was more valuable to him than figuring out what this pull between us was.

He had secrets. Ones he said could destroy me.

But there’s this thing about fate. You can never run away from it.

Let’s just hope mine spits me back out alive.

Angel of Darkness is the first book in a duet

Angel of Darkness is book 4 in the ‘Lords of The Commission’ series and the first part of a duet. It’s a dark and emotionally charged Italian mafia romance filled with tension, power struggles and characters who are as complex as the world they’re born or pulled into.

I listened to the audiobook version of Angel of Darkness, which is narrated by Andi Eloise and Sean Masters and I honestly think the narrator choices were very well suited to the story. Both narrators brought a depth of emotion and intensity that made it really easy to get pulled into the story along with them. Their performances made you feel the emotions and made the characters feel real and engaging which kept me listening past bedtime.

The story itself was really easy to get into. It had that addictive quality where you just want to keep going and I found myself quickly invested in what was happening. No spoilers but I really didn’t know who I was rooting for at times! The pacing worked well keeping things moving while still allowing time for the more emotional and intense moments to sink in.. and there’s many.

One of the strongest aspects of is its characters, especially Alison Battaglia. From the very beginning, Alison stands out as more than just a ‘mafia princess’. She’s caught between expectations, family loyalty and her own identity. There’s a vulnerability to her but it’s balanced with a quiet strength and determination to figure out who she is beyond her last name and the expectations it brings. Watching her navigate that internal conflict makes her easy to connect with and genuinely compelling to follow, she also has a very caring side which Andi Eloise really had you feeling.

Max, now he brings a completely different energy to the story.. his darker, more intense and far more guarded. His connection to the Battaglia family runs deep but so do his own struggles which makes him feel very complex and not just brooding. There’s a constant push and pull in the way he interacts with Alison, where moments of care clash with controlled and planned distance. (I sometimes wanted to knock some manners or sense into him!) That contrast creates a delicious tension between them that feels highly charged from the very start and making their dynamic one of the most gripping parts of the book for me.

The darker tone and character dynamics all added an extra layer of tension that kept things interesting and me hooked in on the edge of my seat, especially as the relationships developed and shifted between them. There’s a good balance between emotion, intensity, intrigue and action. That made it a really addictive to listen.
If you’re someone who enjoys darker romance with strong characters and an immersive atmosphere, then I’d definitely recommend getting this audiobook. I now need book two… stat… what an ending! 😨

Just prefect

Wow that cliffhanger hurt!!

I have being so excited to dive into Alison & Maxs story ever since we got glimpse of them in Francesca’s and Matts book and it’s did not disappoint!

This series is such a good well written mafia series I am so instantly hooked and don’t want to stop listening.

Sean Masters & Andi Eloise are a fantastic pairing and were the most perfect Maxxy Max and Alison.

Alison is such a strong FMC she is such a fun character she shows such a strong side to herself with her comebacks and her inner monologue being sooo funny!! Alison also has such a vulnerability to her with her insecurities which I related to with sharing some of those feelings. There is no one more perfect to voice Alison than Andi Eloise she is beyond talented is voice acting and playing a FMC like Alison showcased her ability to give us all the emotions of Alison’s vulnerability and then hit us with the comedic timing of Alison’s wittiness.

Maxxy max what a character! He is so enigmatic and has so many secrets I just know that he does. I love seeing him break character when it came to Alison with his possessiveness and giving into his need of needing/ wanting her they way he loves Alison is so beautiful and just want him to give into his feelings and claim her. Sean Masters was so perfect as Maxxy max he has this deep voice that was able to portray maxs growly possessiveness to perfection. Sean was also is so fantastic as showcasing emotions and he did that so good in this book.

I love them so much!!

This series in audio is doing things to me!

I have read all the books and this being the 4th I was convinced I would not be affected by the story again.
But Alas, yes I know the story (I mean who doesn't love a Maffia princess, Brother's best friend and he is your bodyguard as well story), Stephanie weaves a world you want to stay in.

The plot is well thought out, the twists come unexpected and make you question your sanity (did I miss things, were there clues?)

Then BlueNose enters the chat and gives you Andi Eloise and Sean Masters to give voices to the characters and you can kiss spare time goodbye.
You will want to spend every free moment listening to this, and then when it is over you have to take some time to stare into empty space.
I will be seeking legal advice to see from whom I can claim damages for the emotional responses I had listening to this book.

I highly reccomend it!

This was my first time reading this author, and it definitely won’t be my last. This story follows Alison, a mafia princess and Massimo her bodyguard and brother's best friend. what ensues is who so much angst, push & pull between the pair. The forbidden energy is strong with this one, as Massimo is so dedicated to the family and tries to fight all his feelings but keeps getting pulled back. they both live in some denial about their true feelings but still can never fight them when they’re together. with family alliances, betrayals and high tension this story kept moving at a great pace, and I found myself completely invested in what would happen next.
Huge praise to Andi Eloise and Sean Masters, they did such a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. Their performances added so much emotion and depth, and the chemistry between the dual POVs made the story feel really immersive. The angst, tension, and emotional scenes all landed perfectly. And that ending… wow. That cliffhanger completely got me. I’m officially invested and now I need closure, because there’s no way I’m walking away without finding out what happens next. Huge thanks to stephanie & bluenose for this opportunity
