I love checking out new-to-me authors, love it even more when that author blows me away with such an incredible story, and M.L. Burns did just that! Such an impressive story that even a day later I am still suffering from the book hanger it left me with. The characters, Calista and Ronan, have tragic and trauma-filled pasts that left them broken, but their broken pieces fit and they get each other. The battle with Calista’s past demons never stopped, and needing to get away after life went flames and she lost just about everything, she went to stay at her stepfather’s remote cabin to renovate it. Ronan spent fifteen years in prison, and his brother picked him up and is letting him stay at his cabin for as long as he wants, neither one knowing Calista was going to be staying there too. A newly freed Ronan, who just wanted to be left alone, was not welcoming or happy to see her, even after learning she was his brother’s stepdaughter, his step-niece. Ronan and the whole situation were intense, but Calista stood her ground and gave as good as she got. It was great watching these two navigate their new situation and then get to know each other, eventually sharing more about themselves. Neither opened up about their past easily, but as time went on, the walls of ice surrounding their hearts slowly thawed, allowing them to share and let the other in. I recommend going into this book knowing as little as possible and avoiding all spoilers, because there are twists that will blow your mind and scenes that follow that will have your heart pounding hard. This engaging story captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. The writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. I loved all the layers of the story and how it all plays out, with plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions, and steamy, oh yeah daddy, romance, other kink too, all well done. M.L. Burns, thank you for this exceptional story and the wild, emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 The audiobook production and casting are nothing short of incredible, with Andi Eloise and Sebastian York delivering an entertaining performance that keeps you engaged and moves you like no other. Their character voices are fitting for a perfect portrayal of each, nailing the depth of the two lead characters, their emotions, angst, and turmoil. Both were naturals in their roles, like the roles were made with them in mind, York was Ronan and Eloise Calista. Both were fantastic at performing the roles of the side and secondary characters too. These superbly talented voice artists are a pleasure to listen to, and their performance takes the story to another level.

Yup, I enjoyed this. First time reading this author, and she did not disappoint. Narration was spectacular. I will 100% continue with this interconnected standalone. Super dark, check your triggers. Taboo tropes.. well done. Can't wait to continue on.

It's a dark story following Calista and Ronan. Both with a trauma filled past, not knowingly but looking to heal. The story is spicy and based off your deepest fantasies. With Andi Eloise and Sebastian Yorke are perfect for these rolls. They perfectly convey the emotion written by M.L Burns

I’m convinced that anything M. L Burns touches is gold. She is a perfect weaver of story, plot, trauma, healing, character development, and psychology. Read your TW besties, if you haven’t read anything by Mel before you should know that she packs her books with them and touches very sensitive subjects. Taboo is always my love language and M.L. Burns delivers on a platter with a story that deserves to be on a MOVIE screen or a limited series. Mel will always find a way to surprise you and introduce new elements to the story, making it very deep and adding intricate layers that will bring us to the climax of the plot. Calista, is a character that could come across as maybe not the brightest, with a Barbie look, who is so easy to dismiss, however, she is a master manipulator. You will end up finding her more interesting and complex. She is a person who blankets herself in her trauma in order to save the ones she loves.
Ronan, is for sure a favorite MMC for me at this point. He had me at a chokehold right from the beginning, but he also broke every piece of me and put it back together. He is very particular about certain things when it comes to his personal bubble. His past made him the way he is, but the way we see him trying to evolve, to heal, and to survive is pure poetry. I believe a part of me healed alongside him.
The chemistry between these characters is absolutely incendiary. We touch on different kinks and taboos with this one, from step uncle x niece, pierced …yes yes u know what … voyeristm, degradation, praise, and much more.
Audiobook: performed by Andi Eloise and Sebastian York in duet style under the amazing team from Blue Nose Audio. Andi has poured all her love for this job into this performance. She added a touch of brattiness and vulnerability, bringing Cal to life. Her unique way she makes you love the character from the beginning combined with Mel's writing is everything and more.
Sebastian York will forever live rent-free in my head as Daddy RoRo. This man’s possessiveness and growling nature were mastered by Sebastian. He owns Ronan's vulnerability and trauma and delivers a powerful performance to be remembered.
