Jescie Hall pens another amazing novel, a contemporary romance novel that not only captivates your attention the entire time, but tugs at your heartstrings, too. Nicole “Nic” and Patrick, a couple living together, a happy couple, but are they really? Patrick comes from an affluent family and is working hard to advance his career in his father’s company. Nic is an aspiring author who works from home doing edits and has a side gig serving drinks at a local dive bar. Patrick did not like her working there, but she refused to give up that job because she wanted some independence since already depended on him for everything else. They have been a couple for several years and are living together in what she thought was Patrick’s house. Then a new roommate appears, their first interaction was awkward since Nic was not told they were having a guest staying with them. Cameron “Hawke” just released from prison after a five-year stay and Patrick took it upon himself to allow Hawke to stay with them while he gets his life situated. Nic was not very nice to Hawke, judging him without even knowing his circumstances. Despite starting off on the wrong foot, she lightens up and opens her eyes to see who Hawke really is, and she is also seeing Patrick in a different light. Hawke does not talk about his past or why he served time in prison. Nic is curious but waits until he is ready to tell her and when he does, wow, it was not what I was expecting. Hawke was such an intense character, he had a lot of baggage, but all he wanted was to be seen and to feel, really feel. My heart went out to him, living a numb life. Nic “Cole” was just surviving and settling until she opened her eyes. Patrick, I was not a fan of him or his family, controlling and hiding their true colors. I loved the complexity of this story and how it all played out, also loved how in the end it comes full circle, no spoilers, so I can’t say much, but will say all gets what is coming. This wonderfully plotted enemies-to-lovers forbidden romance has the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Jescie Hall, thank you for another fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧   And for exceptional narration, Avery Caris and Joe Arden are the perfect cast to bring these characters and story to life. They understand the characters they are portraying, giving each a voice that suits their personality and are believable in every role they perform. Caris nails it as Nic, grasping every aspect of who she was as a person. Arden as Hawke was perfection, grasping his angst, his turmoil and that growl, oh boy, that growl, whew, and his Patrick was just as amazing. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters as well. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling each one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artist and a pleasure to listen to. Their narration enhance enhances this already brilliant story to another level. Thank you for another outstanding listen.
