Summary

La Rose D’Amour deals with adult themes and explicit descriptions of sex and is intended for adults only. It was serialized in 1879-1880 in William Lazenby's raunchy and controversial British magazine, The Pearl.

This book tells the story of a young Frenchman named Louis. Very early in his life, he was introduced to the delights of sex, and once he inherits a fortune, finding and bedding beautiful women of all sizes, shapes, and nationalities becomes his one goal in life. It is a good example of Victorian erotica, a no holes barred, “thumb your nose” at prudish Victorian society, by celebrating the joys of sexual encounters. Like many such books of that time, it can be quite kinky, and some sections may be offensive to modern day listeners. By today’s standards, the book is both misogynistic and way over the top in its explicitness, but it does give a fascinating look at the “dark side" of the Victorian era.
