About this listen
Flashing lights. Fractured hearts. And a love story buried in blue lights and broken sleep.
Emily never expected her first job in the ambulance control room to turn her whole world upside down. Between endless 999 calls, sleepless nights, and an NHS held together by humour and takeaway tea, she finds herself drawn to two very different people: Rockie, the fast-response paramedic with a sharp tongue and a storm behind his eyes, and Amira, her fearless colleague with a wicked smile and a soft touch when no one’s looking.
As the adrenaline of the job builds, so does the tension. Rockie is reckless and complicated, hiding wounds deeper than any ECG can show. Amira is warm and magnetic and far more tempting than Emily had ever expected. Torn between emotional safety and raw connection, Emily starts to realise she’s not just finding herself… she’s falling. But love in the ambulance service never runs smooth. Between trauma, night shifts, lust, laughter, and unexpected tenderness, Out of Uniform is a story about women who lead, men who learn, and the messy, beautiful chaos that happens when we finally let ourselves feel.
Sexy, Graphic, and Steamy but Emotional, and Brilliantly British, perfect for fans of female-led romance with bite, banter, and heart.
©2025 C. J. Vale (P)2025 C. J. ValeOut of Uniform by C J Vale is a gripping and emotional romance that completely surprised me. The writing feels warm, real and deeply human, with characters who pull you in from the very first chapter. Emily and Rockie have an addictive chemistry that builds slowly and powerfully, and their world in the ambulance service feels authentic and full of heart. The story balances humour, heat and emotional depth in a way that keeps the pages turning.
The book shines most when exploring trauma, connection and the way people try to love while carrying their own scars. The spice is bold and confidently written with a very female focused tone that never loses the emotional core. The author clearly knows how to create tension and intimacy in a way that feels believable.
The only reason it is not a full five for me is that I wanted even more time with some of the side characters because they are so strong and interesting. A longer ending would have been perfect, but that is only because I enjoyed the story so much.
Overall this is a standout romance with heart, heat and great character work. I am already looking forward to the next book by C J Vale.
Authentic characters and addictive chemistry
