Now this is my kind of book! Sociopath hero with a strong heroine. A hint of mafia, a little bit of crazy and a bonding love! Can it get better? Cate C Wells introduces Dario to us. Talent in making money, as long as he shows a profit at the end of the day, life for him is great! He is living with Posy Santoro...and that last name is one to avoid. So when doubt of her faithfulness is sent to him, their lives are about to be turned upside down. Dario sends her away, but can anyone ever leave the life once they have been exposed? Now the race is on to get her back, save her life and keep it that way. What did I love about this one? Everything! Dario is a great character. His flaws are great, and he isn't ashamed of it. He follows his gut, and this is the biggest gamble of his life. Posy is quite a woman. Strong and confident, even though she doesn't realize just how strong she is, she finds a way to be exactly who she is. Love these two, the push pull between them, the strong love they build and the action packed scenes to get them there! Spicy, twists and turns and love. The perfect combination.

Narrated by Tyler Darby and Lia Holland, we are treated to an amazing treat. Darby is Dario. A little crazy, very alpha and his intimidation factor spot on! Holland builds Posy up. As she is knocked down, we feel need to seek independence, her fear and the true love of the one man she was hurt by. It's a fabulous listen and the team is the perfect story teller.

This one had an unconventional introduction to the characters that I haven't really come across. Just know that Dario pushes Posy away actually due to a false interpretation. But he gets her back.
Posy and Dario, she changes him from a psychopath into a sociopath. A lot of chess mentions in her. This is definitely not a conventional relationship but slowly we see the Anti-hero Dario start to crack.

Narrators Lia Holland and Tyler Darby did a really good job. This is a first listen and I really enjoyed their voices. They were perfect for the characters.

This is my first book written by Cate C. Wells and considered me wowed by this captivating and impressive dark mafia romance novel. The originality of the characters, and their growth and development is fantastic, as is the world building. Posy Santoro has always wanted to be loved yet finds herself in deep with a man who is incapable of love and she accepts that is how he is until he accuses her of cheating on him. Dario Volpe is the money maker for the mafia, he is a genius for making investments, but he is lacking in other ways, empathy for one and may be a complete psychopath. When his mafia brothers forward him a video of his girl with another man he goes off the deep end, he just throws her out knowing she as good as dead because the boss will put a hit out on her, she knows too much and ties off loose ends. But Posy has her own smarts and goes on the run. When Dario realizes the error of his way, he wants her back and while she could run, she can not hide. This fast-paced story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns, heartfelt emotions and some steamy romance. I loved how it all played out and how nicely the story came together. Cate C. Wells, thank you for this awesome story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧And for the wonderful narration, Lia Holland and Tyler Darby are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that fit that character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured them to sound. Tyler Darby grasped Dario’s alpha boss with a side of psychopath perfectly. Lia Holland grasped every side of Posy’s personality, her strength and confidence. Both were great at performing the roles of the secondary characters as well. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions, or lack of, and projected them into their performance. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhanced this story another level. Thank you for another amazing listen.
