R.C. Bridgestock is the pen name of husband-and-wife writing partners Bob and Carol Bridgestock, whose compelling, authentic crime fiction is shaped by close to fifty years' combined experience with West Yorkshire Police, one of the largest police forces in the UK. Bob Bridgestock served for thirty years with West Yorkshire Police, rising to become Detective Superintendent and Head of CID. During a distinguished career at the forefront of major crime investigation, he led some of the country's most serious and complex enquiries, returning to uniform only as required for professional development at each rank. As a Detective Inspector, he became a trained police negotiator, deployed in incidents involving kidnap, extortion, terrorism and suicide intervention, and later instructed officers from across the UK and overseas in criminal law at the national police training school. In the final three years of his service alone, Bob led twenty-six murder investigations, alongside numerous major incidents and more than fifty suspicious deaths. Throughout his career he worked on many of West Yorkshire's most significant investigations, receiving more than twenty commendations from senior judges and police commanders. His work has since featured in numerous television documentaries. Carol Bridgestock spent seventeen years with West Yorkshire Police in a variety of operational and supervisory roles, including major incident administration, duties management, court file preparation and the management of high-value property, firearms and exhibits. Her experience provides an invaluable insight into the people behind every investigation, bringing emotional authenticity, procedural accuracy and compassion to the stories they tell. Together, Bob and Carol write crime fiction where lived experience meets storytelling, combining meticulous police procedure with compelling characters, emotional depth and the distinctive landscapes of Yorkshire. They are the creators of the DI Jack Dylan and DI Charley Mann series and have worked as police procedure and storyline consultants on major television dramas including the BAFTA-winning Happy Valley, Scott & Bailey and The Beast Must Die. Drawing on decades of frontline policing experience, their novels are known for combining authentic investigative procedure with the emotional realities of crime, qualities regularly praised by readers, reviewers and serving police officers alike. Bob and Carol were voted No. 8 in WHSmith's Readers' Best Crime Authors of All Time. In 2026, they begin an exciting new chapter with Orenda Books. Split Second, the first novel in the Dylan & Mann series, brings together Jack Dylan and Charley Mann for the first time in a gripping story exploring the consequences of a split-second decision and the human cost of pursuing justice.
