Pourtant, qu'elle soit en compagnie d'Elie ou au côté d'Amboise, le révolté, sa volonté de bonheur, de « récolter par pleins paniers cette douceur qui tombe du ciel », est la plus forte.

小酒井不木も同名の作品を出していますが、もちろん内容も受ける印象も全く違います。両方を聞き比べてみて、作家がこの題名でこのテーマで何をどう書くのかという比較をすると、俄然面白くなります。モーパッサンの作品は、特にこの作品は聴き終えた直後はあまり印象に残りませんが、それでもすぐにもう一度聴きなおしてようやく納得するという不思議な一面があります。
