関東大震災後の東京では、しるこ屋が大変少なくなってしまった。西洋人は「しるこ」の味を知らないだろうが、一度知ってしまえば麻雀のように世界中で流行するだろう。
僕は暇を持て余しているようで、ペンを握ったまま、パリのカフェで「しるこ」が啜られている場面を想像してしまうのだった。
芥川龍之介（あくたがわ・りゅうのすけ）
大正期の小説家。1892年東京都生まれ。東大卒。乳児期から母方の実家で育てられた。
東京帝国大学在学中の1916年に第四次「新思潮」創刊号に発表した「鼻」が夏目漱石に絶賛され
文壇にデビューする。初期の古典を材料にした「羅生門」「芋粥」「地獄変」などの名作を経て、「点鬼簿」「歯車」など自己の周辺にテーマを得た作品に移行。
様々なトラブルで心身とも衰弱し、1927年に自殺して36歳の若さでこの世を去る。
没後、親友である菊池寛によって、芥川賞が創設された。
