初出は「文化」［1939（昭和14）年］。
東京での生活に傷ついた「私」が井伏氏の待つ富士山麓へと行くという物語。「私」はあまりにも俗な富士に辟易しながらも、そこでの人々との交流を通して少しづつ心を開いていく。井伏鱒二の勧めで御坂峠の天下茶屋に行ったことや石原美知子と見合いをしたことなど、太宰が1938年に実体験した出来事が素材となった作品。
