Summary
興津が同僚を殺めてしまった責任を、主君の死を契機にその後を追って自殺した際の経緯を遺書にして書いた。
明治天皇崩御をきっかけに乃木大将が殉死し、それに刺激されて書いた作品。
変わりゆく明治の世で、改めて武士道とはを考えさせる。現代においても死をかけることは行き過ぎとは言え、責任の取り方とかルールを守るという態度・行動に再考を促す作品。
