2022年の大河ドラマ「鎌倉殿の13人」主人公は北条義時。1979年の大河「草燃える」で義時を演じた松平健が平清盛を演じることでも話題です。「草燃える」の原作となったのが永井路子さんの「北条政子」と本書です。源頼朝、義経、北条時政、北条政子、阿野全成、阿波局、梶原景時、三浦義村――。「一人一人が主役のつもりでひしめきあい傷つけあううちに、いつの間にか流れが変えられてゆく」歴史を描いた傑作です。
