About this listen

Spend 24 hours with the ancient Egyptians.

Ancient Egypt wasn't all pyramids, sphinxes and gold sarcophagi. For your average Egyptian, life was tough, and work was hard, conducted under the burning gaze of the sun god Ra.

During the course of a day in the ancient city of Thebes (modern-day Luxor), Egypt's religious capital, we meet 24 Egyptians from all strata of society - from the king to the bread-maker, the priestess to the fisherman, the soldier to the midwife - and get to know what the real Egypt was like by spending an hour in their company. We encounter a different one of these characters every hour and in every chapter and, through their eyes, see what an average day in ancient Egypt was really like.

Book was interesting to follow days in the life of the ancient Egyptians, perhaps meant to be but it was slightly basic. I enjoyed it overall

Good concept to deliver story

First of all, I  have to compliment the narrator. He's amazing! He does such a great job and he gave life to this book and its characters. By far my favorite narrator, for now. I will check out additional books read by him purely because he does an astonishing job!

As for the book - such a fun book! From the first chapter, the book was fun and easy to read.

I love the idea of combining fiction with historical facts! I also enjoyed the concept of the book - through 24 hours we meet 24 people from different layers of society. Although from different backgrounds and layers, their lives still have some common points. For example, while reading about one character who didn't sleep well because of screams in the night, you'll realize that it was because a character from the previous chapter was giving birth. By connecting characters and chapters, the author creates a world where each character has its own place.

The book does a great job of teaching you historical facts in a very amusing way, through telling a story of everyday people. The stories feel very well researched, but it probably isn't for individuals who already know a lot about ancient times in Egypt. This is for beginners, for people who want to learn about Egypt without getting too technical.

Overall, a fun and easy read and I'll definitely check out more books from the same series, such as 24 hours in ancient Rome or China.

Great book, the narrator makes it even better!
