About this listen

A brilliantly claustrophobic and twisty thriller from the critically acclaimed author Catherine Ryan Howard.

No one even knew they were together. Now one of them is dead.

Fifty-six days ago. Ciara and Oliver meet in a supermarket queue in Dublin and start dating the same week COVID-19 reaches Irish shores.

Thirty-five days ago. When lockdown threatens to keep them apart, Oliver suggests they move in together. Ciara sees a unique opportunity for a relationship to flourish without the scrutiny of family and friends. Oliver sees a chance to hide who - and what - he really is.

Today. Detectives arrive at Oliver's apartment to discover a decomposing body inside.

Can they determine what really happened, or has lockdown created an opportunity for someone to commit the perfect crime?

Critic reviews

"Catherine Ryan Howard has become my go-to writer for utterly absorbing, original stories with a killer twist and 56 Days delivers all this and more." (Jo Spain, number one best-selling author of The Confession)

"Clever, tender and all too convincing, it's the kind of book you read in one breathless setting to get to the truth." (Erin Kelly, author of He Said/She Said)

"An utterly brilliant and completely satisfying pageturner." (Catherine Kirwan)

A MUST read! So stunning with the twists and turns. Bittersweet memories of pandemic in Ireland.

What a brilliant story!

I wasn’t mad about this book and I had heard such great reviews about it that I was looking forward to it! I just found the plot to be a bit mundane! Granted, there is a good twist at the end but it takes forever to get there and I was kind of fed up of the whole story line by the time I reached the end!

Disappointed with this book

Loved it

Catherine does it again. I recently listened to the Nothing Man and loved it. My only question was the sing song narration. However even though It was the same narrator it seemed to work better. I’m not sure if this is because I was used to it or it fitted better somehow. Either way a good book, looking forward to the next!

Another Gripping storyline

This is a thoroughly entertaining story with a fabulous narrator, it was so enthralling that it kept me up all night, and I have to inform the ill advised reviewer who criticised the narrators accent that the narrator is actually Irish and maybe more people should be aware that Ireland may be a small place but it has a myriad of accents, as do Scotland, Wales and England !

About the story itself, well it's some depressing stuff, I did even find myself feeling terribly sad for both Ciara and for Oliver, I have no idea why some people are complaing about overly descriptive issues, this is normal for this genre, The story is fantastic and well worth a read or a listen (especially a listen as Alana Kerr Collins is a charming narrator) but it IS depressing and ultimately extremely sad .

Fabulous story and fabulous narration
