It seems as though menopause is one of those topics that is too awkward to discuss, which is peculiar indeed given that it is a natural and unavoidable part of life. Worse still, whatever unfair stigma may be attached to menopause is surely made worse for black women. That is where this essential book comes in. Author Jasmine Wrright’s goal is to empower black women to have a sense of control and to manage stress, anxiety, and depression. She achieves her goal through 160 relevant and self-affirming affirmations, all of which of lovingly narrated.

Affirmations are a time-tested and validated means of changing your mindset and improving your mental health. Helpfully, Wrright encourages the listener to integrate each day’s affirmation by repeating it, reflecting on it, and even journaling about it. She also includes a downloadable .pdf containing the affirmations, so you can refer to them even when you are not listening. Wrright further advises printing out those that are particularly resonant. Including this guidance makes the book even more valuable, as affirmations work only if you make an effort to integrate them into your mindset.

Listening to it, I felt like the book provides a unique and empowering experience, especially for Black women going through menopause. The affirmations addressed both the physical and the emotional/spiritual challenges of the stage of life in a way that is very supportive and uplifting.

The narrator's voice was comforting and will go a long way to make listeners feel understood and (most importantly) respected. It seemed to me that the cultural insights and relevance were well integrated, making the content feel very tailored and highly relevant for Black women.

I also appreciated the holistic approach of the book. It didn't just focus on the negatives of menopause. Instead, it encouraged embracing change with grace and self-love. The accompanying PDF was a nice bonus. It should help listeners to really absorb and practice the affirmations.

I felt like this audiobook is a great tool for empowerment and encouragement, helping listeners to navigate a significant life transition with confidence and positivity. It’s clear that Jasmine Wrright put a lot of thought and care into making this audiobook supportive and meaningful. It's a very well-done support for a difficult life change.
