About this listen

A holiday novella. The Shoemakers and Ferraros plan to spend Christmas in Texas with Larry and Jane Ann's brother and then take a camping trip through the Southwest. But those plans are stopped cold when they hit a rogue ice storm in Missouri and they end up snowbound in a campground. And that's just the beginning.

A Campy Christmas by Karen Musser Nortman pulled me in from the very beginning. I love the characters in the Frannie Shoemaker Campground adventure series. Being an empty-nester I could relate to the blue feeling around the holidays. Michelle Babb was wonderful bringing the characters to life with her voice. She conveys the emotions so well. I really enjoyed this short listen.

I have enjoyed the other books in this series but somehow this book didn't work for me, I kept waiting for something to happen and then it ended. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy it because I know he characters so well but if you are waiting for the mystery (which it is billed as, yes I did check) then you are going to be disappointed. It is a fun and very short story looking at what it is like going camping at Christmas, a nice fun cozy feel good book with old friends and new ones.
Frannie is facing a Christmas without her children or grandchildren for the first time and is struggling to get into the Christmas spirit. That is until Sue Anne and Mickey invite them to join them on there holiday plans. With the camper vans dusted off they head off to a empty camp site and settle down for the night before taking off in the morning . These plans quickly change when a snow storm hits and then it becomes a case of surviving. With no electricity or hot water its back to basics and as it was a last minute decision to go they have very little food. The roads blocked and even more snow falling they have to dig deep to find the joy of Christmas and use nature to help make it happen. Can the Shoesmakers pull off a miracle and actually enjoy Christmas? Somebody needs that miracle.
With Michelle Babb as the narrator a three star overall story jumps up to a four star. What more can I say? She is very talented and I enjoy listening to her.

This is a fun story, these books get better each time, this is shorter than the last few but that does not detract, Trapped on a winter campground by a blizzard the usual characters encounter various difficulties with weather, stray and injured animals and a mysterious stranger found unconscious in the snow, A heart-warming seasonal tale with an excellent ending. Narration is perfect for the story as always,

A Campy Christmas (#6 Frannie Shoemaker mystery series) by Karen Musser Nortman is a heartwarming story of family in the midst of a crisis. On their way to Texas, Frannie, her husband and in-laws get stuck in a blizzard. Luckily they found a campground, but soon were without power, heat or water. No murders, but tense situations, but family pulls together! Michelle Babb narrates this wonderful Christmas story to perfection!
