About this listen

How can you win against the man who makes the rules?

An unexpected confession from my husband has left me reeling. How can I trust him after everything he's put me through? This feels like one more layer in his sadistic game.

I can't let his secret matter, not when I'm so close to claiming the empire and setting all its horrors right with the princes I love by my side.

But as we set off on a tour of the conquered countries, my resolve is tested at every turn. One moment, my husband is reveling in tormenting the innocent—the next, he's proving he can be as tender as he is cruel. To play to win, I have to walk a tightrope between both sides.

Is it possible part of him could be redeemed? Uncovering the answer could lead me to my greatest victory—or my most fatal mistake.

*A Dance of Shadows is the third book in a new fantasy romance series with a sizzling enemies-to-lovers romance, smoldering morally grey men, and a determined heroine they'll regret underestimating. There is one more book to come.*

This story neatly builds on the previous books, and leads up to the birth of the 'heir'. There were many twists in this book, and they certainly kept the pace moving well. The ending was dark but beautiful in its own way, with a good few questions still to be answered in the next book. Looking forward to the next steps.

Aurelia is a total queen, outwitting everyone around her while trying to make things right. The emotional connections, the danger lurking around every corner, and the constant "will they, won't they" moments had me completely enthralled.

🎧 And the narrators?! Meg Sylvan and Aaron Shedlock absolutely crushed it! They bring all the characters to life, making the political drama and the smoldering chemistry feel incredibly real. Their dual narration made this long audiobook fly by, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. 🤩

If you're craving a dark and delicious fantasy romance with a strong heroine, morally complex men, and a plot that will keep you guessing, this is a must-listen! Just be warned: you'll be obsessed and left wanting the next book immediately!

Meg Sylvan and Aaron Shedlock definitely get to show different sides to their characters in this one! I loved the twist at the end of book two and I'm hoping this more of a Rheave situation than a Benedict one from Rites of Possession but I am not convinced Aurelia feels the same way! I liked how Aurelia actually tested what she had been told rather than taking his word for it as her intelligence is part of the reason I like her so much.

That being said, I found the pacing a little slow in this one as there wasn't much to differentiate between the different kingdom visits. On the one hand, I liked how the princes and Aurelia weren't split up for the duration of the tour but I did find they were starting to blend together after the first couple of stops. I'm really not sure how to feel about Bianca though as I loved Rochelle and the friendship with Bianca feels like a bit of a betrayal even if its at arms length.

I did love the last few chapters though and it has me looking forward to the finale. I am still so intrigued by the mythology of this series and can't wait to see more of it.

Picking up after the bombshell ending of book two
