About this listen

What do you get when you cross a cursed bookshop, three hot fictional men, and a punk rock heroine nursing a broken heart?

After being fired from her fashion internship in New York City, Mina Wilde decides it's time to reevaluate her life. She returns to the quaint English village where she grew up to take a job at the local bookshop, hoping that being surrounded by great literature will help her heal from a devastating blow.

But Mina soon discovers her life is stranger than fiction - a mysterious curse on the bookshop brings fictional characters to life in lust-worthy bodies. Mina finds herself babysitting Poe's raven, making hot dogs for Heathcliff, and getting IT help from James Moriarty, all while trying not to fall for the three broken men who should only exist within her imagination.

When Mina's ex-best friend shows up dead with a knife in her back, she's the chief suspect. She'll have to solve the murder if she wants to clear her name. Will her fictional boyfriends be able to keep her out of prison?

Contains mature themes.

This very British murder mystery was a lot of fun. We get some magic, shifters, delicious tension and some spice towards the end too. Best of all all male main characters are fictional characters( morally grey book boyfriends 😍). And, to top it all off the main setting for this is a British, old bookshop.
Discovering secrets and solving the murder was really great and I loved the narration.

Magical murder mystery

I loved the book so was really happy to add the audiobook to my library. A cozy mystery RH with a touch of the paranormal (Brits - think midsommer murders) with some great characters, some of the most hillarious one liners I've read and the narrator has the most perfect accent for Mina

A murder mystery with a twist. A one of a kind private investigation team. Loved this book.

Original story full of fun and intrigue.

So good to have a nuanced Disabled female main character. Despite the wonderful magical bookshop, the story and inter-character relationships still manage to feel realistic and relatable. The village characters are hilariously accurate, we all know someone like Mrs.Ellis or Mina's Mum!
I enjoyed the romantic element to the magical mystery plot line more than I expected, it moves quickly but it works well with the plot pacing and didn't reel rushed.
The traditional cosy murder mystery element is a lot of fun and the main reason I picked the series, it's not overly dark.

I'm recommending this to everyone I know who doesn't mind some mild spice with their fantasy.

As a brit some of the americanism could be a bit cringy, given it's based in the UK, but I got so caught up in the story that I stopped noticing it after a while.

It's wonderfully lighthearted, a good twist in the story, and overall it's getting five stars from me (even if the trousers get called pants and MACE she carries is illegal lol)

I LOVED IT. JOLLY GOOD FUN.
