About this listen

Spilling the tea has never been so cozy…

People-pleasing sunshine dwarf Doli Butterbuckle is content with her simple tea magic and circle of friends. It's true that she might have once wanted more for herself and that she's never quite lived up to her family's expectations, but her life is just fine. That is, until she inherits a dragon egg…

As Doli grapples with her newfound responsibility, she turns to gargoyle librarian Sarson, an expert in dragon lore. The more time she spends in his library, the more she finds herself falling for the well-read newcomer. But dealing with her overbearing family, stopping a sinister plot she's uncovered, and handling a dragon that refuses to stay out of trouble means her hands are already full.

Still, determined not to let anything stand her in way, Doli embarks on an adventure with the help of her loyal friends and newfound love revealing that embracing her true self is the most enchanting path of all.

This is the second of the author’s works that I’ve read/listened too and they are undeniably talented. The picture they paint with their words is vivid and beautiful and that’s almost enough to carry the whole thing along. Almost. The character development and actual story are mostly a lot of blah that if it wasn’t set in the cost fantasy genre no one would bother with past the second chapter. What keep me going was the various species and locations, when it came to the characters they all seem pretty flat and there doesn’t seem to be any actual resolution or understanding of their ‘issues’ aside from a happy little ‘all fixed now!’ at the end. Not to mention the introduction of characters that then disappear and no mention is made of them again. It needs a lot of editing and tightening up for sure but the kernel of talent, imagination and creativity is undeniably there and this is definitely an author to watch. I’ve followed TJ Klune from his very beginning and he’s now unrecognisable from his early days to the shining diamonds he now produces I suspect this author will be of the same standard once she hones her craft. The narrator does an excellent job and there is no difficulty switching between multiple characters. An excellent job that absolutely enhances the overall story.

A pretty picture of nothing much

A great follow-up to the first book, slightly more intense but enjoyable none less it was fun to explore more of Adenashire and the other characters.

Really enjoyed this one :) it’s just very cosy and cute. The end seemed a bit sudden but I think that was just how i’d staggered the listening.

Lovely cute story
