A lifetime of duty

Widowed at just seven-and-twenty from her marriage of convenience, Eliza, now Countess of Somerset, is bequeathed a fortune, hers to keep – provided she can steer clear of scandal.

The promise of love

The last thing she expects is to be torn between two very different men – a face from the past, whose loss she’s always mourned, and a roguish poet, who scorns convention.

A taste of freedom

But a lady’s reputation is fragile and with jealous eyes on Eliza’s fortune, it will only take one whisper of gossip for her to lose it all…

Escape with the most delightful, historical romance of the year from the Sunday Times bestselling author Sophie Irwin!

‘A very modern sensibility, witty and fun’ Adele Parks

‘Fans of Bridgerton will enjoy this well-observed Regency story with a plucky protagonist.’ Candis

I loved A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting - yes, it was cliché- but that was the fun. I must have listened to it a half dozen times at least since it's release, and I was eagerly awaiting the next book from Sophie Irwin.

Yes it was difficult to adjust to a new narrator at first but I soon adjusted.

If I thought the first book was cliché, the sequel A Lady's Guide to Scandal kept me guessing until the last what was going to happen next with some very unexpected twists that were at times gut wrenching and I had to sneak a chapter here and there between work meetings because I absolutely could not get on with my day without knowing how Eliza's story would resolve.

How long until the next one?

Story line ok, narrative passable but main character was irritating in the extreme! Surely women had more backbone than what she portrayed? As a widow and not in her first flush of youth she would have been given far more freedom than we are lead to believe. Frankly I’d had told them all to go to the devil!

Wanted to scream at main character!

The story is excellent, but for the reader who over extentuates words almost coming to a halt. Mens voices rediculous. How she got the job is a mystery.

Would be great if not for reader

Another fabulous book from Sophie Irwin. Great characters and storyline. I also
liked how my hometown of Bath was portrayed and loved.

Great story (even though I found it hard to distinguish the characters at first) and I enjoyed the narration, especially sarcastic Margaret ⭐️. I loved how we didn’t find out the love interest’s given names until she was invited to use them. Highly anticipating the next one!

Loved the twists!
