About this listen

The new novel from Rachaele Hambleton, Sunday Times bestselling author of A Different Kind of Happy.

'Perfect for... those looking for a story that lingers long after the last page' My Weekly

"A powerful, compassionate read that stays with you" Anne Carter, Random Things Through My Letterbox:

A story of heartbreak, love and hope.

Lou has had more than her fair share of heartbreak but she has always managed to keep going...until now.

When her friend Martha ends up in hospital after a brutal attack at the hands of her ex-partner, Lou is struggling to see a way through.

Lou has been a good friend to Martha but she has been keeping secrets. Secrets she has kept to herself for a long time. If Lou had shared more of her story maybe Martha wouldn't be in hospital now.

Wracked with guilt, Lou decides she must write a letter. A letter to tell her truth once and for all. A letter to show Martha that with friends, family and people you love around you there is a way through the darkness. A letter to keep Martha safe.

Incredible Story

This story is incredibly real and raw, reflecting a reality known to far too many women. Rachaele Hambleton describes the intricacies of abuse and control with such honesty that my heart was in my throat the entire time I was reading. Reading Lou’s letters and witnessing her dedication to helping her friend escape had me in tears throughout. The way the writing jumps between timelines kept me completely hooked and deeply invested in their safety. It is a beautiful, powerful read, but I highly recommend researching triggers before diving in. I feel like this is a must read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
