About this listen

Dr Nell Ward is an ecologist, not a detective. But when she's the prime suspect in a murder, only her unique set of skills could help to clear her name....

In the sleepy village of Cookingdean, Dr Nell Ward is busy working in the grounds of a local manor house. Whilst inspecting an old tunnel, she did not expect to overhear a murder. As the only person with any clues as to what happened, Nell soon finds herself in the middle of the investigation.

Desperate to clear her name Nell, along with her colleague Adam, set out solving the murder using their skills as ecologists to uncover details no one else would notice. But it soon becomes clear that playing Agatha Christie is much harder than it might, at first appear....

The start of an exciting new cosy crime series—perfect for fans of Richard Osman, Fiona Leitch, Faith Martin and The Appeal.

this reads like an episode of midsummer murder not a good one, the characters are kinda one dimensional, the police are unbelievably useless the main character is so annoying I was hoping she got bumped off, the side love story bit is pointless, like it was written by a teenager and vomit inducing, the bat thing was best thing and the narration, didn't make me wanna hear the next one

kinda predicable

Perhaps because this is the first novel in a series there is too much back story and not enough story. Some people are inserted just to provide a solution with little or no build up. There main protagonist is implausible and the insertion of unexpected resources and backup just removed the whole narrative out of normal life.

The narration is overacted and delivered too slowly and only bearable if listened to slightly speeded up.

Overall, not particularly good for story, character or delivery and I do not have sufficient knowledge to know if the information about bats is correct.

No crows and poor story

I tried this on a whim, not sure what to listen to. I'm not usually into murder mysteries, but thought I'd chance this. I was hooked. I think as well that the way it was read was enhancing, the voice actor was so talented I almost thought she'd switched person. Hooked on the series now, about to start book 2.

I started off really interested and invested in the story and the characters.
Sadly it then went on and on and on 🫤
I found some of the police procedures irritating and uncomfortable…….
Decided to skip to end …..wasn’t impressed then either .
Could have been such a great book if it hadn’t gone on so long .

Longwinded

I was unsure about listening to this book but am so glad I did. The story and characters were so well written as was the story line!! I would highly recommend giving it a go as I’ve just bought the next one in the series.

Wow unexpected!!
