With a twisting plot of false accusation and revenge, A Prisoner of Birth is an exhilarating novel from bestselling author, Jeffrey Archer.

If Danny Cartwright had proposed to Beth Wilson the day before, or the day after, he would not have been arrested and charged with the murder of his best friend.

And when the four prosecution witnesses are a barrister, a popular actor, an aristocrat and the youngest partner in an established firm's history, who is going to believe his side of the story.

Danny is sentenced to twenty-two years and is sent to Belmarsh prison, the highest security jail in the land, from where no inmate has ever escaped.

But everyone has underestimated Danny's determination to seek revenge and Beth's relentless quest to win justice . . .

What a great tale - I could not stop listening to it. My only regret is that I bought the abridged version by mistake and have missed out on 10 hrs of great story telling!!!

Another Ace Archer...

I have never read/listened to an Archer novel and so I didn't know what to expect. How pleased I was when I started listening to this! This keeps you gripped and I find myself driving around the block on my way home from work to listen to a little more (sad eh?). I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys gripping drama.

A great listen

At nearly 16 and a half hours this is quite a long book but the story is easily strong enough to make it worthy of being this long. There are some court scenes that could have bogged down the pace but these were well written and the story is well paced. Roger Allam is a brilliant reader, he really brought the characters in the story to life and I was really sorry when I reached the end. This is highly recommended from me

Jeffrey Archer is undoubtedly a wonderful storyteller, I had to keep listening, I was gripped. However it is with regards to narration, a topic JA clearly states the absolute importance of during the short interview at the end of this audiobook. I cannot understand why so many audiobooks are let down by appalling narration, to the extent that at best one grits one’s teeth at yet another blunder, the listener continuing because the actual book itself is good, but wishing that you had chosen to read the book! At worst, regardless of the quality of the book, it becomes impossible to continue listening to such disgraceful narration, such as mispronunciation of words, even those that should be considered to be within the capabilities of even just a reasonably educated person. I could write a chapter on the various forms these narration blunders take. There are no such blunders in this book and as I am now returning to JA’s library of books, initially having read hard copies, I have no doubt I will not be gritting my teeth at the narration of those audiobooks I intend to listen to. JA absolutely understands and insists on ensuring that his books are spoken by narrators at the top of their game! I will add this narrator to my list of good narrators. Sadly I have a longer list of narrators to be avoided at all costs. Please, please take note whoever is responsible for narration of audiobooks.

Not having read/listened to a Jeffrey Archer book previously, I was a little sceptical. However, I found this a very difficult book to put down. It is one of the best listens I have had. Some of the twists and turns were quite surprising. In a word, brilliant.
