About this listen

'One of the greatest anti-heroes ever written' LEE CHILD

Posing as an escaping Nazi war-criminal Bernie Gunther arrives in Buenos Aires and, having revealed his real identity to the local chief of police, discovers that his reputation as a detective goes before him.

A young girl has been murdered in peculiarly gruesome circumstances that strongly resemble Bernie's final case as a homicide detective with the Berlin police. A case he had failed to solve.

Circumstances lead the chief of police in Buenos Aires to suppose that the murderer may be one of several thousand ex Nazis who have fetched up in Argentina since 1945. And, therefore, who better than Bernie Gunther to help him track that murderer down?

Excellent writing, story and performance. Written with great authority the story takes us to Argentina in 1950 as our hero seeks safety and anonymity. Fat chance of that with his reputation as an excellent detective.
Dragged back into investigating unfinished business from pre war Berlin he is lied to and misled as he staggers towards the horrible truth.
One of the very best in the series.

These just get better - well worth the read - especially from the history perspective- so much to learn about how the Nazi history spreads thought the world post WW2

Exceptional read

I’m biased cause I love the Günter series but this is a fascinating dual storey about Berlin and Argentina. Well recommended
