Shaftesbury, 1936.

Loved this book. The story of Emily carried me through every chapter. With all the trials and tribulations she had to go through.Great when she met Tom and then the upset down to the scheming Lucy . Reminded me of loyalty to friend's and the atrocities of war. How friend's died and you just had to get on with life. Was so concerned it wasn't going to have a happy ending. But it did. Thank goodness. Was sad when it came to an end.

The story for me, dragged a bit and could have finished so much sooner or been more than just getting to the end of the war with a bit of a boring ending. The epilogue was good and sealed it all but could have happened a number of chapters before with a paragraph rather than chapters of really nothingness at the end.

The narrator for all these books is good but she does leave long pauses in inopportune moments and it is very annoying.

If you’re after a book to pass time then this is definitely for you but don’t be surprised if you fall asleep to it in a number of places.
