There is a lot of Grisham in Brigance - they were both street lawyers on the side of the people, not big corporations. It gives the book an emotional core that burns with a white heat

Loved every minute - story and reading performance - including the somewhat eccentric Scottish accent, which makes up in enthusiasm what it admittedly lacks in authenticity. Doesnt interfere with enjoyment a bit. If anything, a Deep South/Scots hybrid accent enhances the experience. Grisham remains one of the planet's great storytellers and his affection for his characters shines through on.every page. Splendidly read. Highly recommended.

Another masterpiece from an established author. The story retains your interest from start to finish and this is enhanced by the exent narration. Simply superb!

What a mess! But the author made sense out of it although the ending is unfinished in many ways. The abuse of position and authority is nothing new and if often not brought to justice Why should mercy be so rationed?

I know others have also commented on this but I just couldn't help adding my pennyworth....the narrator's execrable pronunciation in his attempt at a "Scottish" accent was making my ears bleed. It totally spoiled the story for me when he was doing this character because I was so focused on how downright diabolically bad it was that I was losing the ability to follow the plot. Dear God, is there no one in America from Scotland who he could have run it past first before inflicting it on the rest of us? Is there no quality control overseeing narrators doing accents for audiobooks to check whether the accents they are doing are reasonable? I know a Scottish accent is difficult and I have only encountered a few non - Scots actors/narrators who can passably pull one off, but most manage something at least believable and approximating the real thing. Sadly not the case here! That said, another entertaining book from John Grisham.
