A Young People's History of the United States brings to US history the viewpoints of workers, slaves, immigrants, women, Native Americans, and others whose stories, and their impact, are rarely included in stories for young people. A Young People's History of the United States is also a companion volume to The People Speak, the film adapted from A People's History of the United States and Voices of a People's History of the United States. Beginning with a look at Christopher Columbus’s arrival through the eyes of the Arawak Indians, then leading the reader through the struggles for workers’ rights, women’s rights, and civil rights during the 19th and 20th centuries, and ending with the current protests against continued American imperialism, Zinn in the volumes of A Young People's History of the United States presents a radical new way of understanding America’s history. In so doing, he reminds listeners that America's true greatness is shaped by our dissident voices, not our military generals.

From pre-America right up to the 21st century, Howard Zinn provides the insight into American History with zero biases and perfect clarity.
Shedding a much needed light on topics which both American historians and government administrations fear being made public knowledge; ranging from the first voyages of Columbus, the true intentions of the Founding Fathers, genocide carried out during "Manifest Destiny", virtual disposal of American millitary personnel during WWI and every controversual Presidency right up to the Administration Bush Jnr. We see a common thread of grassroots activism and class resistance to the very establishment that's still very much alive, and calling the shots in the United States to this day.
Wherever there's a child with a passion for history and the tools it gives us to plan for our futures, look no further for their birthday presents than a copy of this perfectly written book.

This should be RECOMMENDED READING for all children in Elementary or High School History Class.
