About this listen

3-Book Post-Apocalyptic Thriller Boxset Filled with Fascinating Characters & Prepper Info

As the world descends into chaos, one woman will do whatever it takes to save her daughter…

Shannon Grayson is a tough-as-nails long-haul truck driver. But her life is turned upside down when a massive EMP blast hits North America and demolishes the power grid.

Trapped in a sprawling retail super-center, Shannon barely escapes with her life and her truck. Now, as a bullet wound in her shoulder festers with an infection, Shannon is determined to find the daughter she lost contact with five years ago.

Kim Nakamura isn’t waiting for her mother to rescue her. She’s joined a militia, and she’s helping bring order to a world gone mad. But power corrupts, and the militia has a great deal of power indeed. As Kim begins to question her choices, Shannon draws closer. And soon they will both be faced with a gut-wrenching decision.

The world before the EMP is gone—but some old problems linger, and they’re about to get worse. Andre, Shannon’s ruthless ex-husband, has escaped from prison. He’s on the loose, rebuilding his violent motorcycle gang.

And he’s coming for Shannon and Kim…

The world building is brilliant and while listening I was so on edge, because it felt like I was experiencing the entire thing through the bones of the characters.

I have enjoyed listening to this 33 hour of audio material and it was a bumpy ride, one that has left a deep impression!.

Dramatic story arc of family post apocalypse.

This volume gives you three books: Trapped Days; Fractured Days and Final Days in the correct order and completing a three thread story in over 33 hours of listening immersion. Grace Hamilton has given her characters the problem of an electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) disabling all the gadgets relying upon electronic circuitry and turned on being "fried" and rendered useless. How people react and solve this reversion to less technological reliance is just part of the story interest. Practical prepper and survival tips are woven in as well as themes of loyalty, manipulation, power craziness, betrayal and even redemption. The first book introduces us to the three parts of the family seperated by the father's crime and mainly features the mother's struggle and her helpers and hinderers. The second book features the daughter's physical and emotional journey and her sinister encounters. Both have a current of tension with mention of the father escaping prison and his relentlessly seeking revenge. The third book shows how it works out when all three are re-united with their respective allies and enemies. The author does not spare her characters both emotional and physical threats and harm so drama and tension are high. Several characters emerge as redeemed and wiser, so I think it has a satisfying resolution even though the door is left open for more adventures for at least one character. Harrowing as it was at times, I enjoyed my immersion in this imagined world as values I espouse were endorsed.
The three narrators all did an excellent job of representing the emotion and attitude of the character they represented as well as voicing male and female and different characters within their scenes. It helped that each chapter announced whose point of view was being related.
