About this listen

No wonder she's been crowned Queen of Cosy Crime' Mail on Sunday

It can be hell in high water!

Drowned brides are like buses: nothing for ages, then two come along at the same time . . . ! Abandoned by husband James, Agatha hops on a plane to the South Pacific, hoping to mend her broken heart. But there she meets a happy honeymooning couple, for whom disaster strikes when, tragically, the bride drowns. Back home, alarm bells start ringing for Agatha when a woman, dressed in a wedding gown, is swept down river. The police say suicide, but Agatha, spurred on by recent memories, particularly her own disastrous marriage, sets out to prove them wrong.

Praise for the Agatha Raisin series:

'Sharp, witty, hugely intelligent, unfailingly entertaining, delightfully intolerant and oh so magnificently non-PC, M.C. Beaton has created a national treasure' Anne Robinson

'M.C. Beaton's imperfect heroine is an absolute gem' Publishers Weekly

'The Miss Marple-like Raisin is a refreshing, sensible, wonderfully eccentric, thoroughly likeable heroine' Booklist

'Once started, you'll have a job to put it down until you've finished' Amazon reader, Kent

'Another wonderful tale about Agatha and her chums ... Long live Aggie!' Bookworm, Essex

I have been listening to MC Benton’s books for a while now, after watching the series on TV and I really enjoy them. Penelope Keith does a wonderful job of reading them; I just love her voice
This story is not one of the best, but there were plenty of twists and turns to keep this fan on her toes

Not one of her best

I love these familiar books as a diversion and break from more serious reading. They are about murder, intrigue and an ideal country life minus the murders! However, I'd dearly love Agatha to get a grip of herself and learn, but novel after novel she behaves in the same way, never learning! But I still go back as I am an optimist!!! Penelope Keith didn't immediately appeal to me but I'm fully converted.

Easy and entertaining listening

About half way down

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

the complexity of the story makes it interesting, however it also appears rather convoluted which can be a bit irritating (it feels that there are too many red herrings)

Which character – as performed by Penelope Keith – was your favourite?

the main character is by far the strongest (several of the voices are a bit strange)

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
