Summary

Alcohol Explained is the definitive, ground-breaking guide to alcohol and alcoholism. It explains how alcohol affects human beings on a chemical, physiological, and psychological level, from those first drinks right up to chronic alcoholism. Alcoholism and problem drinking seems illogical to those on the outside; indeed, it is equally perplexing for the alcoholic or problem drinker. This audiobook provides a logical, easy-to-follow explanation of the phenomenon and detailed instructions on how to beat it. Despite being entirely scientific and factual in nature, the audiobook is presented in an accessible and easily understandable format.

"This is an excellent book written by an inquisitive and educated author who during a period of his life suffered from alcoholism. The book explains in an easily understood language the various effects that alcohol has on our body. In my opinion the text would serve as a great handbook not only for those struggling with alcohol but also medical students as part of their education. I am sure some of my own patients troubled with alcoholism in recent years could have benefited from reading William’s book and I will be recommending it going forward." - Håvard Molvik, MD, MRCS, MSc, MRCGP

Really insightful. I’m a classic binge drinker and always thought this was ok but over the years I have gone from drinking very occasionally to weekly and having to get drunk. This book has made me realise I have a problem with alcohol and has given me the knowledge and tools to give up totally for good. Definitely worth reading.

I saw this book recommended in Facebook group and it didn’t disappoint. I normally get bored with this kind of books a quarter of the way through but the way this book is written kept me interested all the way through. It has absolutely changed the way I look at alcohol and drinking. Highly recommend!

Can be listened to at 1.25x. Sounds like a British military officer reporting findings with authority and clarity. Makes really realistic points that don't mess about or overempathise or speculate on psychology or impel you to spend money on some scheme: it just makes it make sense to stop. And it does. Thanks.

Concise and helpful, positive attitude

I'm probably an average British drinker, nothing more but I listened to this after it was mentioned in a lifestyle podcast. It was fascinating and although we all know the effects of alcohol, it really made me understand them and to really notice how alcohol affects me. The narration is a bit dull but fits and it's not boring. I'd urge anyone to listen.
