About this listen

Part swashbuckling adventure on the high seas and part modern-day love story set in the heart of Paris, An Astronomer in Love is an enchanting tale of adventure, destiny, and the power of love from bestselling author Antoine Laurain.

In 1760, Guillaume le Gentil, real-life astronomer to King Louis XV, sets out for the oceans of India to document the transit of Venus. The weather is turbulent, the seas are rough and his quest may be more complicated than initially thought.

250 years later, estate agent Xavier Lemercier chances upon Guillaume's telescope in a property he's sold. As he looks out across the rooftops of Paris, he discovers an intriguing woman with a zebra in her apartment.

Then the woman walks through the doors of his office, and his life changes forever . . .

I enjoyed this book and the way it operated across two timelines. The narration wasn't great, but it didn't stop me identifying with the characters as their stories unfolded. The fact that there weren't any chapters was a bit annoying at times.

A lovely story

Narration started off very bland but improved towards the end. Lovely story. There are no chapters, but a small pause between the changing characters would have helped. Overall, a good story perhaps better to read rather than listen to.

Lovely story somewhat marred by the narration

I finished this book after I had read a book about the great Van Gogh.
It strikes me that Guillaume was as dreamy a person as Vincent; both being so consumed by their passion in life at the cost of all else.

A really good storyline. The characters and their personalities were very believable.

I loved it!

As good as a starry night.
