About this listen

Three species vanish every hour. Our incredible world is at risk, and we all have a part to play in saving it.

The diversity of life on earth is astounding, with each species perfectly adapted to its environment. Sharks can navigate the ocean using electromagnetic fields; sloths use algae as camouflage; albatross can fly for hours without beating their wings; and orca pods each have unique cultures and languages.

But every hour, three species disappear.

Our incredible world is at risk.

Megan McCubbin reveals the stories of the scientists, rangers and conservationists who are fighting to save these extraordinary creatures from extinction. An Atlas of Endangered Species shows us that the battle is on for their survival - and we all have a part to play.

Not only is Atlas of Endangered Species a fascinating, immersive exploration of iconic and overlooked species, but most importantly it's a powerful, passionate plea for a wilder future alongside nature. Her rigorous research and friendly tone carves a clear, hopeful path towards a more harmonious relationship with the nature world. I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful book! This is a lovely book, well written and beautifully illustrated. With a third mass extinction on our doorstep, it's also very timely, and I'm delighted to see that it's been written by one of the foremost of the generation of new, young naturalists that are helping to change our perception and appreciation of the natural world. More power to their elbows! (Iolo Williams)
Packed full of wonderful pictures and deep insights into the lives of the beautiful plants and creatures the planet is in grave danger of losing - don't miss this book! (Dale Vince, OBE, UN Ambassador for Climate Change and Founder of Ecotricity)

Megan's enthusiasm is catching . . . An Atlas of Endangered Species weaves a narrative of hope and champions nature's underdogs, and instils a deep love for nature and people alike
An elegant blend of science, exploration, insight and optimism. I found this book engaging, clear and insightful into methods of conservation and current threats to species. It was also nice to get a window into Meghan’s breadth of experience in the field of conservation, and the projects worked on. Beautifully read and a peaceful escape for me.

I thought this book / audio book was excellent, very well researched and thought provoking. I listened so I didn't see the dyslexia friendly version of the book but I thought this was brilliant, something that had never occurred to me.
The book is great because it doesn't just focus on the well known / cute and cuddly species, there's a good range of species from across the globe, it left me wanting to research more into certain species.
Although the book was excellent I found myself feeling a bit doom and gloom after reading it, especially as I finished it a day after the UK PM pushing back on some of the UK green commitments. I wonder where this leaves the species in the book and the human race longer term.

excellent!

Megan has definitely spent the time researching the plants and animals in this book to offer a great understanding of the threats they face. Putting a face to the people behind the scenes helping to save the amazing variety of creatures we have on this planet.

Well researched and thought provoking.

Lots of great scientific facts and information related in a very accessible way. Her enthusiasm and love for Science and the natural world shines through, occasionally with despair and anger, yet always with a good amount of optimism.

Exceedingly listenable

Excellently researched, written and narrated by Megan McCubbin. As someone who struggles with eco anxiety, I found each chapter the perfect length to limit my listening time. I also found there were enough positive and uplifting stories to counteract the frustration of our leaders' ambivalence to climate crisis. Instead of feeling paralysed by their inactivity, Megan has inspired me to maintain hopeful thinking and to introduce more lifestyle changes.

Interesting and inspirational
