I loved the narrator and the characters are really well drawn. The twist was great and I had no idea it was coming. A superb read (listen) from one of my favourite authors.

The main character is very believable

It's not often that I credit a narrator for enjoying a listen, this one spoke consistently and unhysterically and the story came across beautifully, I didn't have to adjust volume or frantically pull out my earbuds for sudden loud screechy accents or women or childrens' forced voices. And there was no clangy music at the start, middle or end. In addition, I really did like the story, gripping to the end. Except for one thing which didn't match this author's previous punchy and straightforward dialogue, the bit where he throws in at the very end, for whatever reason, that Anna wants to ban her mother from her bedside for criticism. So stereotypical. At this point it was a surprises because from the rest of the book I didn't get that he was that kind of frothy author, so I hope he doesn't join the stereotyping bandwagon. I live near the location of where much of the story is set and look forward to the next book and am glad to see it has the same narrator.
