About this listen

Hilarious, honest and helpful. Dr Alex George, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Mind Manual

An informative, funny and absorbing look behind the scenes of the therapy room. I've recommended this to everyone. Rachel Barr, Neuroscientist and author of How to Make Your Brain Your Best Friend

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the closed door of the therapist's office? What's revealed there may surprise you.

Psychotherapist Josh Fletcher takes us on a candid and human journey into the individual sessions of four patients - Levi, Zahra, Noah and Daphne - sharing their self-discovery and recovery as they engage in therapy for the first time. And he lets us into the inner thoughts of a therapist, from shock and sympathy while in session, to how it feels to run into a former client on a messy night out.

Interspersed with straight-talking advice on common issues such as anxiety, OCD and panic attacks, as well as a therapist's guide to how to find the right therapist, And How Does That Make You Feel? is darkly funny, illuminating and full of promise that a better future is always possible.

It's everything you wanted to know about therapy (and quite a few things you probably didn't).©2024 Joshua Fletcher (P)2024 Orion Publishing Group Limited

As a therapist I really appreciated Josh's honest disclosure and open welcoming invitation into the therapy room. Josh didn't shy away from those difficult moments and shared them bravely. I loved it. I was with him in those uncomfortable projective identification moments, moments of fear, doubt, self recrimination, open curiosity and humour. I laughed with him and I cried for Harry with him. Damien: It was great Josh, thanks mate.

As someone who is studying to become a therapist I found this to be an honest and sobering look in to the human being behind the job and loved the honesty.

The raw honesty.

I absolutely love this book, which is so brilliantly performed. It’s a clever, informative and laugh-out-loud funny book which I’d highly recommend to anyone. The insight into the mind of a therapist is so interesting! I learnt loads about therapy, and Josh’s story is inspiring and heartbreaking. Such a brave and powerful book to put out into the world.

It made me feel great!

Loved this book. So refreshing to hear the thoughts of a therapist ‘warts n all’. Some heartmelting/heartbreaking moments. And parts where I nearly choked on my tea (did he really say that?). Lots of takeaways and helpful psycho education. Have recommended to a few clients and colleagues too.

Refreshingly honest

I loved the way the author brought in the multiple voices. A book that made me smile, laugh and feel more normal along my counselling journey. Honest open and to the point.
