About this listen

In "Christmas Even", the case of a burglar killed in mid-heist leads Bosch to retrace a link to his past. In "Father's Day", Bosch investigates a young boy's seemingly accidental death and confronts his own fears as a father. In "Angle of Investigation", Bosch delves into one of the first homicides he ever worked, back as a uniformed rookie patrolman, a case that was left unsolved for decades.

Together, these gripping stories span Bosch's controversial career at the LAPD and show the evolution of the haunted, legendary investigator he would become. Utterly unputdownable, they are proof that "Connelly is a crime writing genius." (Independent on Sunday).

I Listened to all 3 short story collections back to back. Im normally a fan of the long story, where the small side plots eventually feed into the bigger narrative. This collection isnt like that and feels like a group of stories that couldnt be developed into a bigger or more dynamic story. Each short is enjoyable enough but I didnt feel as fullfilled as I do with the longer Bosch stories. Very much worth a listen and Im glad I did as a Bosch fan. Some seriels change narators or use a good performer regardless of context but for me Len Cariou is Bosch, I dont know what Bosch looks like (I have an image in my head) but I know what he sounds like and its len Cariou is performance isnt the most textured but its perfect for the old time detective.

These short stories (plus an introduction to 'The Drop') are okay if you have run out of full length Bosch novels and have credits to spare but they're just tasters and I also prefer Titus Welliver, who for me, is the authentic voice of Bosch.

I have listened to most of the Harry Bosch stories but this was my first in a long time. I had forgotten how the producers have a tendancy to stick anoying music over beginings and endings whilst the narrator is still speaking. Its very anoying and pointless. I just want to hear the story not some anoying music.

I'm a big of a Michael Connelly fan and this was the only one of his books I had not read but to be honest I wished I had not bothered!
I knew this was a short book but these three Storie should just have been added to a few Bosch books as a bonus because they are just not up to it!

Three Harry Bosch short stories taken from different times in his police career.
(i) Christmas Even - Bosch 're all s a memory from his time in Vietnam when, injured, he'd been at a concert for the military which had changed his life.
(ii) Father's Day - An infant dies of heat stroke.
(iii) Angle of Investigation - One of Harry's cold cases for the Open Unsolved Unit is the first dead body he'd found when still a uniform boot just after his returning from Vietnam.

Classic Bosch and recommended for all fans as well as a good introduction to this fabulous character. Good narration by Len Cariars

"A nose for this stuff."
