What they wanted was a sturdy, sensible boy to help with the chores. Instead, they got 11-year-old Anne Shirley, whose capacity for adventure was only matched by her bright spirit and love of life. I knew I loved this book (and all the Anne books) so the question was would I like it read to me? I did! The story is the same gentle unfolding tale that I first read when I was about 10 years old and read again so often I also memorised some of the passages along the way.

There is a choice of reader I think, there being several narrators on offer for the same books. I randomly chose this one, Laurie Klein and I like her voice. It's not the voice I had 'in my head' but it didn't get in the way or spoil it for me.

Very enjoyable, innocent and gentle, a great way to spend a few hours.
