Summary

Arlo Finch in the Kingdom of Shadows is a captivating fantasy-adventure story by master screenwriter John August.

After a harrowing summer camp, Arlo Finch is back in Pine Mountain, Colorado, preparing to face a new school, new threats, and two new Rangers in Blue Patrol.

Arlo is about to undertake his most dangerous journey yet: all the way to China to try to bring his father home.

But when the mysterious Eldritch reveal their true agenda, Arlo must make an impossible choice: save his friends and family, or save the Long Woods. Both worlds will never be the same.

Arlo is the most easily-read protagonist I have ever encountered. thank you, John August. Arlo excels in the art of Being a Person and the way he is written is neither too mature nor childish for a middle schooler. young kids can easily look up to him without feeling alienated by his maturity level and older people can appreciate and admire him without felling inferior to a 12 year old. he works so nicely as a protagonist that way. I personally tend to dislike the protagonist of a story because of the fact that they are the protagonist and are therefore limited by certain obligations they have to fulfill in their role as the focus of the story. and then it can become really hard to create an indivdual human person that is able to center the plot without becomjng unrelatable. but Arlo is just a boy who is living in the world and things he can't control happen to him and he reacts, but he also makes choices in things he can control which that cause events with consequences. his morality and character doesn't just fit into a cute little personality quiz off the internet which I think is the sign of a well written character
