One of the best books I’ve ever encountered. Brilliant in its other side emphasis of beauty. Makoto Fujimura kept me up till early morning. There are so many gems hidden in the exquisite writing, read so well. I made copious notes, clicked back so many times, passed to let the words sink in.

It’s a book to take slow. To focus hard when listening. To give your intuition catch up. Rush this book, or try and listen to it as a background comfort, and you probably miss the whole point. Like a highway ride past an exquisite garden all is lost and missed.

I can see myself coming back again and again.

Makoto Fujimura’s Art + Faith is one of the most powerful books I’ve ever listened to. It’s not just about creativity—it’s a profound theological reflection on what it means to make, to hope, and to live faithfully in a broken world.

His concept of “generative love” and “the theology of making” deeply resonated with me as both a creative and a believer. The chapter on “Lazarus Culture” was especially moving—linking resurrection not only to spiritual renewal, but also to our call as makers to bring beauty and life into places of despair.

The narration is calm, reverent, and reflective, perfectly matching the tone of Fujimura’s message. This is not a fast-paced book—it’s one to savor, to pause and reflect on, and return to again.

Whether you’re an artist, a thinker, or someone simply longing for a deeper way to integrate faith and everyday life, this book will bless and challenge you. Highly recommended.

A Soul-Stirring, Beautiful Meditation on Creation and Belief

The author does make beautiful art. But this book is non-inspirational and a dread to listen to. 80% is Bible citations that are just meaningless in regard to creativity in art and are down right annoying. They all say the same thing: as God is the first and ultimate Creator so should we be.
I managed to listen to 3/4 with difficulty. A waste of a credit.
