Summary

This eloquent book translates attachment theory and research into an innovative framework that grounds adult psychotherapy in the facts of childhood development. Advancing a model of treatment as transformation through relationship, the author integrates attachment theory with neuroscience, trauma studies, relational psychotherapy, and the psychology of mindfulness. Vivid case material illustrates how therapists can tailor interventions to fit the attachment needs of their patients, thus helping them to generate the internalized secure base for which their early relationships provided no foundation. Demonstrating the clinical uses of a focus on nonverbal interaction, the book describes powerful techniques for working with the emotional responses and bodily experiences of patient and therapist alike.

As a lay person I found this book very interesting. I saw other reviews saying the narrator was a bit dry. The content is a bit intense, I think it would be very difficult to read it in a lovely way but it was
very relevant to me so I found it very educational.

Worth the read but at times long and complicated. However I feel it will help me to be more reflective in therapy sessions.

Really thorough, detailed, informative, clinical, great for a therapist and also for personal learning. A little too wordy and I feel it could have been made more concise

Very thorough

This book is really great for understanding attachment-based therapy, very clear explanations and examples. Unfortunately for me the narrator doesn't seem invested or interested in the topic and it's hard to stay engaged with.
