Summary

The Vinyl Detective plunges into the world of death metal in his sixth adventure. Expect laughs, LPs, cats and the return of fan favourites, Nevada, Tinkler, Stinky Stanmer and more.

The Vinyl Detective goes Scandi noir in his sixth adventure. Disfigured corpse. Check. Grotesque snowman. Check. Headless animals. Check. But in fact the killer is taking their cue not from Scandi noir fiction but another popular Scandinavian export—death metal.

I do like these daft books a lot.
They are all like an audio cartoon- in some ways they remind me of the same mindset you have to have as when reading or listening to Vonnegut, as a way to visualise or to deal with the characters. Though these are comedy books and do not have that parallel social comment that Kurt does. So for me it's about the film show in the mind that is more animated than live action as it were. .. i would say this series would appeal to a more mature person.

So this follows the usual pattern of the series. This time set in Sweden with some Nordic Noir Rock
Band.. and the usual murders..brilliant fun.

Love this series with its mix of esoteric facts and mystery, not to mention the great characters.

Great fun

Cartmel has always amused me. This book is little different inbthat respect. However the reading is appalling. Robertson appears to have been told to. slow ______ down ___occasionally. Clearly different sections of the book are recorded at different times, and probably not in sequence. The first few chapters are excruciatingly badly read, with the lissssstener ocasi ____on aly almost left guessing as to what word will come out next. Then it improves,. with fewer pauses, extensions, just to disappoint.

My writing deliberately gives an impression of how bad some of this is. What was the editor thinking of?

I might add that as a self-confessed audio 'enthusiast', the love of B&O is perplexing.

Pleasingly barmy, incompetent performance

Another convoluted case involving the ups and downs of Vinyl collecting. This did stretch the bounds of credulity to the utmost, without quite reaching breaking point. Nevertheless, it proved entertaining and interesting; the characters always engaging with their colourful and amusing epithets and remarks.

Being a scandinavian my self, I was very pleased that the Vinyl Detective made trip to Sweden. Great characters, wacky plot and a super narrator = A great time ! Hopfully the serie won't end here and there will be more Vinyl to find in the future!
