The Memphis-based Stax recording studio was founded in 1957 and produced 800 singles, 300 albums, and many movie music scores till its closure in 1975. Patricia L. Lawrence tours the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, a loving recreation of the original recording studio, down to its slanted floor, whose reverberations helped distinguish the raw Stax sound. Media Director Tim Sampson acts as Lawrence's guide, speaking over the background noise to share his extensive knowledge of Stax's history, including a quick overview of soul music and Stax's live recording process.
