About this listen

Do you want to create, publish and market your audiobooks? Are you ready to use podcasting to grow your author brand and reach more listeners with your books?

Audiobooks are the fastest-growing segment in publishing with double-digit growth in markets across the world. Podcasting has gone mainstream with listeners consuming audio on mobile phones and in-car devices, as well as through smart speakers. Advancements in voice technology continue to expand possibilities for audio creation and marketing.

With such rapid growth in opportunity, how can you position your books in an increasingly voice-first world?

I've been podcasting for over a decade as well as narrating and producing my own audiobooks since 2014. I'm an avid consumer of audio content and I'm also experimenting with AI voice technologies. In this audiobook, I'll share everything I know so you can position your books and your author brand for the next shift in listener behavior.

I'm an independent author with 15 book titles spanning seven years, now planning my first audiobook. Who better to go to for advice and guidance than Joanna Penn. I had previous attended one of her workshops so knew about her, her 'how to' books and her infectious enthusiasm for all things authoring and publishing.
Having started my Amazon Audible subscription, the first audiobook I downloaded was this, and now I'm putting together a plan for an audiobook of my short stories - I've already approached an actor-author friend to narrate and edit it for me. Thanks Joanna, now I've got my first project for 2023 off the ground, and I'll be in touch for a launch spot on your excellent podcast!

This is a magnificent piece of work which is packed with useful information. Joanna Penn certainly does her homework, and her narration is extremely pleasant to listen to. One of these days I hope to put some of her tips into practice, but even if I never get around to it... it's still a fascinating audio book to listen to. Thanks Joanna.

Magnificent!

I'm never disappointed by Joanna Penn. Whether it's her books, her talks or her podcast she is always inspiring and is destined to leave an incredible legacy for the writing community.

As an independent author myself, I wanted an introduction into the world of audio for books, as I plan to get into it myself. Joanna has served it here. Full of her insight and experience, she's brought great lessons and thoughts that are worth hearing if you're considering the same shift as me. I particularly liked the sections asking frank and dissecting questions to ask yourself. They were helpful. I'd recommend reading this.

Brilliant Intro Into The World of Audio

Difficult to tell if the narrator is human or a bot. The narration is bland, lifeless, clipped and dull. 'She' seems to have no interest or enthusiasm in what 'she' is reading.
The author has not bothered to edit her book for audible and the voice refers to the 'reader', not the 'listener'. Pretty lazy for an audible book about audible books.
If you plough through the chapters despite the sleep-inducing monotone, you may learn some useful information about the relatively new ways of promoting and selling your work. It's quite a good introduction to digital promotion and for those beginning to think they should catch up with modern publishing.
For beginners, worth a listen.

Bring some coffee.
