I used to be a good girl.

That is until I woke up in Vegas married to a former hockey player who also happens to be my best friend’s ex.

Cole Hebert and I are opposites. I’m the new town doctor, a rule follower, and five-five on a good day. He’s the six-seven bad boy currently doing court-ordered community service.

I’m struggling to earn the respect of the people in our hometown, and he’s doing some soul searching after an injury ended his hockey career. We’ve already drunkenly said I do, so we agree to a marriage of convenience.

Forced to live together, we slowly become friends. I see a side of Cole I never knew existed. He coaches kids’ hockey, knits for the entire town, and loves snuggling while watching Jeopardy.

Soon, we’re growing closer, and the way the hockey-playing lumberjack worships my plus-size body and obsessively calls me his wifey has me embracing my inner bad girl and tearing down all my carefully constructed walls.

Our feelings eventually burn as bright as our passion, but the small town we both love is harboring dark secrets. After a shocking discovery, we learn there are those who want us silenced forever, and we’re forced to risk it all to protect our happily ever after.

Author’s Note: Axe-Identally Married is a marriage of convenience romance featuring a sassy plus-size doctor and a cinnamon roll hockey player with a heart of gold. If you enjoy opposites attract, flirty banter, possessive heroes, wood-chopping, meddling moose, and small-town hijinks, you will not be disappointed.

Welcome to Lovewell, Maine, where the moose outnumber the people and you can’t swing an axe without hitting a hot, grumpy lumberjack. The books of the Maine Lumberjacks Series are ALL standalones but are most fun when listened to in order!

A very enjoyable listen, this is a slow burn romance between Cole and Willa.
Both characters have insecurities..Willa about her body and weight and Cole about everything basically,he just doesn't feel like he is good enough for anything.
Cole is a cynical character when it comes to himself and he is very down on himself all the time...This is a product of his childhood and being the result of an affair. He is a hockey player who destroyed his career after going off the rails..Now he is trying to make amends and be a better person.
Willa is a doctor and came back to town after her father became ill and so she has taken over his doctors practice..She is quite a sensible character and is the opposite of reckless Cole.
Willa dislikes Cole because he is her friends ex boyfriend and he never treated her well..But he is a different man now.
A weekend in Vegas for an engagement party has Cole and Will spending time together and having a wild drunken night of fun and going to the chapel to get married OOPS..!!!
They are not happy about this but decide to stay married for 6 months for various reasons and try to convince the town and her parents that they are in love.
Now living together also they get into a routine and enjoy eachothers company, opening up to eachother about their lives and their demons. They develop a really good friendship..But Cole falls fast and hard for his hot curvy wife, but Willa is reluctant to cross any lines and finds it hard to believe that someone as gorgeous as Cole could ever want her...So Cole as to try to convince Willa that he is attracted to her and he is the man for her.
Cole totally redeems himself in this book and we see a loving, patient and kind side to Cole he has grown as a man and Willa helps him work through his angst....and Cole does that for Willa too he makes her feel sexy and desirable and worships her.
Ava Lucas and Stephen Dexter are wonderful at portraying both of these characters and the side characters too, they are both so easy to listen to.I enjoyed listening to them very much.

Keep me going to Maine please! This family is one I want to hang out with. Yes, they have issues, but when push comes to shove, they show up. This book features Cole, the youngest, the hockey player, and pretty much the outcast. He has had his issues, but there is a jealousy the others have for him regarding their father that they just can't get past. Now Cole is in Vegas, meets Willa, both dealing with their own issues, flirting, drinking and the next thing you know, what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas. Deciding to remain married for six months as both work through things, and find living together is comfortable. Until it isn't. Their comfortable friendship begins to turn to real feelings. What will they do at the end of the six months? There is a lot that goes on in this one. Not only do we have a romance, but it's a bit taboo and I will leave it there. Plus a small thread of action near the end leads to a whole new situation. I really enjoyed this, it was fun, flirty and I loved that someone finally saw Cole for the man he is and the man he can be.

Stephen Dexter is so good as Cole. He is broody to start, that angry man just trying to deal day to day and as Willa becomes his person, his whole demeanor changes with the small changes Dexter slowly makes. Matched with Ava Lucas(she is a favorite of mine), Willa comes in, and she holds no punches. From the start she is loyal, and comes to bat for Cole. She is feisty and vulnerable and is played perfectly with the nuances in Lucas's voice. This is a fabulous team and I loved their performance!

Gotta love Cole!!!

This story just keeps getting better. Waking up married in Vegas, Willa & Cole do the only thing they can, they fake it. What starts as a marriage of convenience, becomes best friends, becomes lovers, becomes forever. The slow burn journey was such a blissful route to take. I loved seeing their friendship bloom. Love the domesticated coziness of these two. Just an everyday couple watching jeopardy or sitting in contented silence together reading and knitting. That simple confident acceptance is what makes their marriage a success. The ‘radical honesty’ pact is yet another thing that instantly takes this fake marriage to real territory. Add in the limitless support and defence on both fronts and you really can’t go wrong. Even before she liked him, Willa refused to let his brothers or friends say anything bad about him. She immediately jumped to his defence without hesitation. He took a similar approach with her, refusing to hear a negative word about her even from her. He came to her defence every time she was down on herself, helping her build her self-esteem. The body positivity was a wonderful thing to read.

Audio notes: Stephen Dexter and Ava Lucas are so much fun to listen to. I love the intensity Stephen brought to Cole in the suspenseful scenes. And the vulnerability Ava brings especially when it came to Willa’s body image in contrast to the strength of her doctor mode. They are a great fit for these characters and give a great performance.

Listened to all 3 books over a couple of days and now have the other 2 actual books on order. Such fun and easy listening. I particularly liked that the male/female narrators did their own voices instead of changing tones etc. Really enjoyable.

Loved this series!!
