In this episode, we unpack the difference between ordinary sibling conflict and verbal abuse that gets dismissed as “just rivalry.” Sarcasm, chronic criticism, gaslighting, guilt-tripping, exclusion, contempt, and controlling “concern” can erode self-worth and create emotional unsafety. These patterns keep us stuck in family roles, and they often reflect power and control dynamics in sibling relationships that come from attachment injuries, trauma responses, and internalized shame. In this episode, we explore practical ways to respond to these patterns, such as naming the experience clearly, tracking your nervous system, setting behavior-based boundaries, reducing exposure, and rebuilding an inner sense of safety, clarity, and self-trust over time.
