South Carolina athletics is hosting a massive recruiting weekend, but while football has plenty of attention on its official visitors, the biggest storyline may actually be happening on the baseball side.
New South Carolina baseball coach Kevin Schnall and his staff are hosting several key transfer portal targets this weekend, highlighted by one familiar name: former Gamecock first baseman Will Craddock.
Craddock started all last season for South Carolina before entering the transfer portal following the coaching change. Now, there's a real possibility he could return to Columbia under Schnall's new regime. The Gamecocks would love to bring back one of the most experienced bats available, but they'll have to fend off serious competition from SEC rivals Georgia and Mississippi State.
In this episode of Locked On Gamecocks, we discuss:
- Why Will Craddock is the most important visitor on campus this weekend
- How Kevin Schnall has quickly rebuilt momentum in the transfer portal
- Why South Carolina desperately needs more position players
- The significance of seven of USC's ten portal additions being pitchers
- The remaining holes still left to fill on the roster
- Why bringing back Craddock would be a massive win for the new coaching staff
- Other key baseball visitors expected in Columbia this weekend
- How the Gamecocks' baseball recruiting weekend compares to the football program's huge official visit weekend
- The latest roster-building strategy under Kevin Schnall
South Carolina currently boasts one of the top transfer portal classes in college baseball, but the work is far from finished. With several important roster spots still needing to be addressed, this weekend could play a major role in determining whether the Gamecocks are ready to compete for an SEC title and return to Omaha in 2027.
Can Kevin Schnall pull off one of his biggest recruiting wins yet and bring Will Craddock back home?
