Britain has unveiled a four-year defence investment plan worth nearly $20bn to strengthen deterrence and reach 3.5% of GDP by 2035. Funding will expand nuclear capabilities, procure 12 F-35A jets and long‑range missiles, and back UK‑developed unmanned vessels to guard vulnerable subsea communications cables. NATO chief Mark Rutte called it a “good step”, yet spending is forecast at 2.7% next year, below the pledge. The plan follows delays and two defence ministers’ resignations.
