About this listen

Geralt of Rivia is on a mission to save his ward, Ciri, and with her the world, in this third novel in the bestselling Witcher series that inspired the Netflix show and video games.

The Wizards Guild has been shattered by a coup and, in the uproar, Geralt was seriously injured. The Witcher is supposed to be a guardian of the innocent, a protector of those in need, a defender against powerful and dangerous monsters that prey on men in dark times.

But now that dark times have fallen upon the world, Geralt is helpless until he has recovered from his injuries.

While war rages across all of the lands, the future of magic is under threat and those sorcerers who survive are determined to protect it. It's an impossible situation in which to find one girl - Ciri, the heiress to the throne of Cintra, has vanished - until a rumour places her in the Niflgaard court, preparing to marry the Emperor.

Injured or not, Geralt has a rescue mission on his hands.

Critic reviews

An incredibly nuanced, well-articulated novel, imbued with a self-assured command of description and brimming with Eastern European folklore
The Witcher series is something quite special

As a fan of the games I have been mesmerised by the unravelling lore and mystery of the books. You won't need to know anything of the games or the Netflix series to find yourself enchanted by the adventures of The Witcher.

The narrator's mastery of voices, songs and Elvan pronunciation make for a truly immersive experience. Mystery, adventure, twists and swashbuckling action will keep you engrossed and wanting more. My favourite part was when he intrepid band of misfits discover the dark nature of one of their own trusted companions.

If you like fantasy/adventure and all delivered by an as yet unrivalled performance then this is for you.

A compelling and enthralling listen.

Book 3 is the best of the series so far, the story moves on well and the naration is very engaging. Good length too.

Excellent performance

Again the Witcher books are poorly chaptered by audible however this is compensated for by an excellent story and performance, in this case however, the story does take a very long time to get up to any decent speed

Takes a long long time
