About this listen

“She’s a sinner pretending to be a saint, crushing your soul while you kneel at her feet.”

Remi

They chant his name. They play his songs. Adams North has the world in a chokehold. Rock god on the rise. Except, the frontman for Of Men and Wolves isn't Adams to me. He's Foster West, the man whose voice stole my heart five years ago. The one I left behind and needed to forget. Now I'm directing his band's documentary, trapped on tour, sleeping on their bus. And Foster doesn’t intend to make my job easy. Because while I ache from reminders of what we could have been, Foster hates we happened at all.

Foster

I broke every rule for her. Trusted her. Laid myself at her feet. I fell hard for the sad girl who shared whispered promises. Then she shattered them—walked away like it wasn’t real. Now my worst mistake is coming on tour. She’s filming us on stage and off, giving a glimpse of the men behind the band. I'm expected to be open. Vulnerable. Let her in after the wreckage she caused. I hate how I still crave her. I hate every look and word, threatening to drag me back under. Remi Sinner nearly destroyed me once. This time around, there’s no escaping this beautiful liar. Before Now is an angsty, second-chance rockstar romance and book one in the Of Men and Wolves series of interconnected standalones.

Includes: forced proximity, emotional wreckage, found family, secrets, and a broody frontman who can't stay away.

Before Now is the first book in the Of Men and Wolves series. This is a second chance rockstar romance. Remi and Foster met through an app. The Wander app was still in a prototype phase. The wander app gave people the opportunity to see other parts of the world for the price of an uber or museum ticket. Remi was just trying to graduate high school and finally escape her current life. Foster was in Europe and would get paid to walk through the museums he already was there to see. One day the app was malfunctioning and Foster and Remi exchanged numbers. They started talking and pretty much were in a long-distance relationship with each other. The day they were to finally reveal their faces something happened and they never spoke again. Now several years later Foster is a famous rockstar. Remi is a videographer being hired by the band Of Men and Wolves. Remi gets hired and now is on tour with the band. Foster and Remi reconnected and started falling in love again. Loved this book. I really enjoyed the past and present flashbacks.

M.K. Blackwood and Christian Fox did a phenomenal job narrating this book in duet style narration.

OH MY! This is a fabulous, emotionally charged rockstar romance that stole my heart. This is my first CG Blaine book, and now I will be on the lookout for more! Meet Remi and Foster. This couple meet online in the coolest of apps, and formed a romantic relationship. But when they are to actually meet, Remi never shows up. Years later, Remi is chosen to follow a band and film a documentary and little does she know that the lead singer is none other than Foster! And the story begins. Written going back and forth from present to past, the story unfolds and it grabbed my heart. Tears, tragedy, fear, misunderstandings and soulmate love keep this story flowing. Each scene grabbed my heart for different reasons as I kept rooting for these two! It's full of all the feels and is a fabulous listen.

MK Blackwood and Christian Fox take their talents to make the best listen! Remi is full of secrets and emotions with Blackwood creating the state of mind and feels with her nuances. Fox is Foster, and what a personality. He gives Foster the anger, hurt and love all through his inflections. I enjoyed this duet narration and especially loved their narrator exchange at the end! If you want to hear that, make sure to subscribe to CG Blaine's newsletter so you too can hear it!

This is a new author for me but given I love a Rockstar romance I decided to dive into the audible instead of the kindle.

I really enjoyed the story which is very modern in that the relationship between Foster/Adams and Remi is built initially online via an app that allows people to experience tourism from the comfort of their own home. However as we soon find out things aren’t at all comfortable for Remi at home and Foster and his wandering soon becomes her escape. The pair develop a relationship based on everything except seeing each other’s faces, and just as they decide to exchange photos of their faces stuff goes down and they lose touch.

Cut to five years later and Remi is hired to film a documentary of Foster’s/Adams’s band on tour, except she doesn’t recognise him (for good reason) and he seems to hate her. He allows her to discover who he is and the new relationship builds from there, uncovering truths and secrets along the way.

I really enjoyed the story but there are a few things that made me mark this down a star. Firstly there is a lot of back and forth between ‘then’ and ‘now’ and I found it frustrating as it always time jumped just as we were going to find out something interesting or when something key happened. I appreciate this was deliberate but I dislike being so obviously played like this by an author, as it takes me out of the story. After I’d decided to sift through and listen to all the before stuff first, before continuing with the now stuff I was able to enjoy it more. I just much prefer linear.

Secondly there were quite a few confusing sentences and things referred to that either seemed to presume previous knowledge (although there isn’t a book before this) or were just a bit nonsensical. Like for example the house Foster showed her via video, her reaction suggested this was familiar to her, yet it hadn’t been discussed previously. Or when finally Foster decided to tell his back story for the documentary the sentences seemed jumbled. There were other examples throughout. There was a lot of symbolism which I just didn’t get.

I did love the link to the Hometown Heartless (you could read or listen to Brit Benson’s Hometown Heartless world for context - although it’s not necessary for this book). It was nice to see familiar characters dropping in.

However having said all that I did really enjoy this listen not least because the narrators did an outstanding job. M K Blackwood is new to me but her raspy voice was absolutely perfect for Remi and really lovely to listen to. Her performance was great. Christian Fox, what can I say? He is one of two of my absolute favourite narrators, and as always was superb as Foster/Adams. The duet narration was the cherry on top of the perfect performance.

This was really worth the credit.

This was an addicting second chance, rockstar romance that I had a hard time putting down. I am completely obsessed with this book and I loved everything about it. Remi and Foster's connection was electric, emotional, and unique. The narrators, M.K. Blackwood and Christian Fox, were phenomenal and they were amazing at bringing Remi and Foster's personalities to life. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and I can't wait to read more from this author.

From the moment Remi stepped into the museum in Prague I knew it was going to be a 5 star read for me because the tensiion grabbed me by the troat.

This (audio)book has all my favorites, a second chance romance, longing, yearning, pining and a bit of mystery, add in my favorite narrator and you have the perfect book.

The story starts in the present when Remi visits a concert to meet the band Of Men and Wolves to do a documentary about them, not knowing the lead singer is her former lover who she hasn’t seen in 5 years and hates her.
With the dual timeline we found out what happened between them 5 years ago and why their connection is undeniable.

I loved the dual timeline line, how we found out why the heartbreak in the present is so devastating. These two were clearly meant to be and I wanted to know what happened. The timelines are perfectly intertwined and it added to the mystery.

Then the audio, this book was made for Christian Fox’ voice, the nuances, the SINGING and nobody says baby like he does, swoon.
MK was new to me as a narrator but I loved her voice and she fit the raspiness that is described about Remi’s voice perfectly.

Do check the trigger warnings because there are some heavy topics mentioned.

This story grabbed me by the throat and didn’t let go until the last second
