About this listen

How do you shine light on a killer who knows only darkness?

Deep in Washington State's Hoh Rainforest, a young women is found dead, a single sprig of hemlock in her pale, lifeless hand. The killing suggests a ritualistic obsession. The crime scene leaves investigators without a lead.

As Special Agent Claire Anderson and FBI Task Force S.W.O.R.D. dig into the case, an early breakthrough hints at a motive too twisted to believe. But public pressure mounts as the media turns the Hemlock Killer into a nationwide sensation, fueled by damning leaks from inside Claire's own investigation.

Who is leaking the details? And why?

With the killer always one step ahead and FBI Task Force S.W.O.R.D. fracturing under the strain, Claire must tread carefully. But each new discovery pulls her deeper into a darkness that feels endless.

Can her team stop the Hemlock Killer before another victim is claimed? Or will the darkness consume them all—including FBI Task Force S.W.O.R.D. itself?

I was very disappointed to hear that along with loosing weights Fitz has changed to a man who used to talk like a Toff to a man who spent time in the east end of London, especially as it’s the same male narrator through out the whole series. it totally spoilt it for me. What I also found with regards to the relationship that isn’t a relationship that every one knows IS a relationship because of the many things they slip up on however due to the rules and regulations of the FBI why they are still on the same team if this is against the rules! I think for me this was not my favourite in the series so much so I am not going any further in the series.

Fitzs voice

Thoroughly entertaining read full of twists and turns. Best of the Clare Anderson or SWORD series.

Not sure about the validity of the intellectual fascination behind the motivation of the murderer but each to his own I suppose.

Brilliant ending

Thoroughly entertaining!

loved the characters and the plot, also the 'frisson' of the topic that permeates the book. The onecpont off for performance? I am Scottish, Fitz' accent is definitely, definitely not!

Intriguing and entertaining

The appalling supposed ‘English’ accent used for Fitz is horrendous. Have been meaning to comment since book1 but kept missing the opportunity! I don’t know what the narrator is basing his ‘accent’ on but it’s not ant English accent I know. To be frank it would have been better not to try.

Don’t try accents if you can’t do it right!
