Bible Translations for Everyone is a fun and engaging guide in which pastor, professor, and popular YouTuber Tim Wildsmith will help you navigate the complex world of Bible translations.
Have you ever wondered why there are so many translations of the Bible? It can be overwhelming and challenging to make sense of the differences, similarities, strengths, and weakness of each. With over 400 English translations to choose from, how do you know one is right for you? This book is here to help. Chapter by chapter, it tells the story of many different versions of the Bible, including information about their historical context, the people who translated them, and what makes them unique.
Bible Translations for Everyone contains:
- An introduction to how Bible translations work.
- The fascinating history of early English Bibles like Tyndale and Wycliffe.
- The textual basis, translation philosophy, strengths, and weaknesses of each popular English translation, including The New King James Version, The New International Version, The English Standard Version, and more.
- Translation comparisons.
- Timelines and charts.
After reading this book, you will understand the essentials of each translation and be able to make an informed decision about which ones are right for you.

It’s a really excellent review of Bible translations. I thought I knew a lot already but I still learnt so much from this book. It’s certainly given me a real insight into translations I hadn’t considered. I’m looking forward to assembling my ‘team’ of translations to study God’s word now and in the future.

I came back to Faith by the NLT translation, reading and annotating the Life Application Study Bible NLT edition. However, at church, everyone used the KJV. I wouldn’t say that they were a “KJV Only” crowd, but just traditional. That was the Bible they were used to, had grown up using and had always known.
I think that there are still that group of people in all of our churches. Not just KJV, but NIV, ESV, NLT, etc. This book will open your mind a little. Enough to make you ask yourself if you Truly understand what you’re reading, when you read your Bible?
Tim takes the time to give a good history lesson of the origins of the most popular Bible translations available in English (I learned that there were over 400 at the time of his writing it. I know that there is at least one more - the BSB)!
You will want to know the history and the difference between the Textus Receptus(sp) and the others! 😅 (btw, Becca is right)!
I had since moved on from the NLT to the NKJV, my default Bible now, but I have been so inspired by Tim, via his YouTube channel and now this book, that I have purchased both the CSB and the BSB in various formats (She Reads Truth - CSB and Interleaved Scripture Journals - BSB). They add so much to the study of the Word.
If you are interested in getting more from your Bible, but you don’t know what more you need, this is a great way to start!
